According to media reports, former Illinois Fighting Illini power forward Brian Randle has agreed on a two-year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Randle, an Illinois graduate, went undrafted in 2008 after averaging 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Randle has been playing overseas since most recently suiting up for Maccabi Haifa. Now, Randle will join the reigning Euro-Champs.

Randle is very athletick forward and a quality add for Maccabi in the “4” spot. He lacks shooting ability from the perimeter (very important when Sofo is on the court) but he has a fighting spirit and can handle the ball well, attacking with drives and finish around the rim. The question now concerns Maccabi’s next move. It will sign a small forward and put Devin Smith at “4” or a stretch-4..?

Maccabi continues the trandition of adding quality players from the domestic league. Randle will sign a 1+1 contract for 550.000 dollars.
